Standards for High-Quality King Oyster Mushroom Spawn

Pleurotus eryngii.jpg

1. Mother Spawn: The mycelium is pure white, dense, robust, and grows uniformly with a glossy sheen.

It is creeping, with well-developed aerial mycelium and does not produce pigment. At 22–25℃, it fully

colonizes the slant culture medium in 6–8 days. At 15℃, physiologically mature mycelium turns the test

tube slant culture medium a pale yellow color, and sometimes fruiting bodies appear.

2. Primary and Cultivation Spawn: High purity, free from contamination; pure white mycelium, uniform

and vigorous growth; moderate moisture content, adhering tightly to the bottle (or bag) wall without

shrinkage or liquid accumulation. At 22–25℃, it generally fully colonizes in 30–40 days. If the culture

medium dries out and yellow liquid accumulates at the bottom of the bottle, it is an aged spawn and

cannot be used. If yellow, green, or orange-red colors appear, it indicates contamination by Aspergillus

flavus, Phytophthora aeruginosa, or Neurospora, and the spawn must be discarded.
